I know a number of people here either have or are considering buying a 64-bit AMD machine. If you were considering loading Linux on it, and in particular the 64-bit version of SUSE 9.0 it could be a problem if you had only SATA drives, since SUSE 9.0 (64-bit) would not recognize the drives. Thankfully, SUSE has gotten its act together and there is a way to make it work with VIA motherboards and Promise SATA controllers. To proceed you need to download and burn the Patch 9.0 CD located at: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/x86_64/supplementary/9.0-PatchCD Download the iso image "9.0-PatchCD.iso" and burn it onto a CD (be aware that this file is roughly 210 Mbytes, so you'll need a decent connection or alot of patience). After you burn the ISO image boot from the patch CD. It will eventually prompt you to insert the DVD for SUSE AMD64 9.0. Once you get this far you should be off and running. There are full instructions on SUSE's ftp site, in the directory I specified above. Anyway, this worked like a charm for my FX-51 and Djinn is now fully 64-bit compliant (it's pretty cool to use a single inline "bsfq/bsrq" to extract the LSB or MSB from a bitmap- but that's a story for another day) ;-) Good luck, --tom
