You could be right about ponder/no ponder... usually I see Ruffian 2 very near King 3.23 and Tiger 14/15 - on no ponder rating lists though. I wonder how ponder can have such a big negative effect. Maybe it just moves too early or something like that? (I compared with another list with ponder on, and indeed Ruffian 2 ranks not as good as on noponder ratings there, too.) Thanks for pointing me to that. Nevertheless, independant from the Ruffian results I still think it would be good to match engines at least roughly against the same "spectrum of strength," in general, for ratings. OTOH, some use a kind of qualification where engines must achieve a certain minimum against a smaller selection of opponents first (or something like that), to join the list. Regards, Mike Scheidl
