I get the same emails asking me to join those various Yahoo! chess groups. I get
the impression that whoever is in charge of them just wants to be in charge of
something. Your experience supports that theory.

One time that guy posted here saying, "We will never spam you!", of course, I
get spammed several times a week asking me to join, so I kind of doubt anything
he says.

One of the invitations said:

"There are however three conditions for posting here, id est:
A) Each Member is obliged to post here at least two times per month."

I quit reading at that point :) Any group who needs people to participate so
badly that the *require* people to post messages isn't worth joining.

It all sounds like he is trying *WAY* too hard to be in control.
