A P4 2.6 GHz is probably slightly slower than an Athlon 1.8 GHz (at least
running Crafty). I have an Athlon 2 GHz, and Crafty gets over 6 Mnps from the
opening position. Your program gets a little over 1.2 Mnps. That's roughly 4-5
times slower than Crafty.

All else being equal, you could gain over 100 ELO if you could reach the speed
of Crafty. Of course, if reaching that speed means that you lose valuable
information like your attack tables, it might do you no good.

There is probably room for improvement. You should try to get your code profiled
one way or another. Otherwise trying to increase the speed is just guesswork.
