Hi Sedat,

I bought a P4-3.0 HT several weeks ago and I am quite satisfied with it. Crafty
runs very well on it, so do Deep Fritz 8 and Shredder 8. They equal and
sometimes even surpass the Athlon systems running at 2.25 Ghz (Athlon 2800+
Tbred). However, some programs, most notably Junior, are quite a bit faster on
the Athlon systems.

The Axon benchmark is not biased but, being a mixture of 16 bit and 32
instructions, runs a bit slower on P4 machines. I think that the Axon bench for
my P4 is about 7.98, or close to 8 (about as fast as an Athlon 2400+). Deep
Fritz 8, however, runs faster on a P4-3.0 than on any Athlon platform (except
the new 64-bit), mainly due to the built in MMX extensions. Crafty 19.10 SE,
for example, benched at over 1,300 kns, which is not bad at all (having in mind
that I was running several tasks at the same time).

If I remember correctly, the Deep Fritz 8 benchmark was about 620-630, meaning
that the knps went up as high as 1,300 knps.

All in all, I think that a P4 is a good machine. I use it not only for computer
chess but for my everyday work. The Athlon that I have at home, runnning at
2.25 Ghz, is my chess only machine.

I am sure that you won't make a mistake with the P4.
