I know that there is an xboard function but I also know that it is for running
the program under winboard and getting the winboard commands.

I do not understand the sentence
"Xboard mode doesn't turn"

tscp does not ponder so it is clear that it waits for commands when it is your
move.

infinite loop means that the program does not respond to commands.
tscp runs under winboard and responds to command and you can quit by the command
quit so there is no infinite loop.
