Hello
Thanks Andrew,Sune,Tom for the kind words and support.
To comment on Andrew's point about replacing the eval function with a simple
piece square table. In my opinion that would actually be more like TSCP than it
currently is.
I.E that would be TSCP's simple eval but with "stuff" removed. That is surely
easier to do than beginning with TSCP's eval, modify it to 0x88 and add features
like specific opening, mid, end game eval, drawn game detection, square of king
eval, lazy eval. (All of which were in my "clone")
It would really be useful if someone in the Chess programming community would
take some time out to define a way of quantifying what is considered to be an
acceptable modification or an unacceptable Clone.
I am sure this isn't the first time that this can of worms has been opened and I
am equally sure it won't be the last. Not an easy task but maybe it would be
possible. It is a big problem, as it spoils what is an otherwise enjoyable
hobby.
Anyway that is all history now, I no longer have any motivation or enthusiam to
resolve this issue.
Regards Geoff
