(Also posted to the WinBoard forum.) I'm disappointed that Geoff decided to post what amounts to libel in my opinion. Here's the situation from my point of view: Geoff did send me an email early this month. I replied to his email, basically asking for a copy of his program or its source code, so I could see what he meant by "the evaluation function is pretty close to your original." Geoff never replied to my email and competed in Leo's tournament anyway. That prompted my request that he write his own evaluation function. Now Geoff changed his mind and is saying that he made "quite a few changes" to my eval function. Now that I know this, he has my permission to do whatever he wants with Waster. Use it in tournaments, redistribute it, whatever. He's pretending that I knew this all along and am just being a jerk by not letting him do computer chess, which is not the case at all. (BTW, people can do computer chess just fine without TSCP.) I do not want people to get the impression that I'm a jerk or tight fisted with my source code. Ideally TSCP would just be used as a tutorial (it isn't even very well written) and people would write their own programs from scratch, but I'm not really opposed to people using TSCP as the basis of their own programs. I've given my permission to many, many people to do just that. -Tom
