[snip] according to all tests i ever made, crafty is *not* good at tactics. or to put it more clearly: in test suites such as ECMGCP there are many programs which do better, but are significantly weaker than crafty in real play. perhaps this has something to do with crafty not doing checks in QS, and ECMGCP having lots of king-related tactics. why are you still using a test suite like WAC which is obviously no challenge? there are a few challenging positions remaining, true, but there are far too few of them to make any kind of meaningful comparison with other programs... if you really want to measure tactical strength, switch to a harder test suite. cheers martin
