Thanks a lot for the information. It's 3:00 am here, I'll digest it again tomorrow :-) Yes, the Athlon64 seems quite fast. Even 32 bit OS, 32 compile, Rybka does 1,116 KNPS on 3400+ (2.2 GHz, 1 M L2), compared to 797 KNPS on P4 3.06 GHz. It looks like the right choice for chess programs.
