I never read about them and invented the idea independently.
Only later I read about it when I read sergei's post.

I doubt if the programmers of the commercial programs heard about them.
They were certainly not used more than 20 years ago in the way that you use
them(otherwise they could be succesful also in programs like Crafty).

Crafty is probably better than gothmog in blitz because you did not do speed
optimization but based on results that I read it seems not to be the case in
longer time control.
