 I see it as reuse. Standing on the shoulder of giants and all that:)
 But with a couple of embellishments it could yield constructed tests. You could
find common root positions/openings in the filtered sets. And then use some kind
of backtracking directed search or placing scheme to fulfill the constraints.
 Opening, middlegame and endgame could all be trained in a coherent framework.
 The db->cql->root-filter would be neat for opening studies/trees. You get a
list of variations that lead to the positions you train on. You get the openings
you need to know. And when playing OTB you will know what to look for. I guess
it would yield a considerable stength increase.
 Add a typical endgame filter and you could train to become extremely dangerous.
 When I think about it it certainly seems lika a tempting product. Just
intergrate it with SCID. Hmm, untapped market?!
