Hi Jorge, I am very grateful for the amount of work and CPU time you spend on testing my engine, and I am very interested in your games and results. But the limited number of games played does not allow you to make conclusions like the one in the subject line. The only thing you can conclude from your results is that in short matches, neither of the two engines are entirely without a chance of winning. >I still think that Gothmog at longer time control play a la par with >Fritz 6, since 1 game doesn't really make too much of a difference. I assure you, they are not even close. There is plenty of statistics to be found on the net to prove that there is a huge gap in playing strength. As an example, consider, Heinz van Kempen's rating list: http://www.husvankempen.de/nunn/ratings/ratingsnunn2.htm As you can see, Gothmog is rated 201 points behind Ruffian 1.0.5, which according to the SSDF list is about as strong as Fritz 6. Of course Heinz' list is based on blitz games, and it is possible that Gothmog is somewhat stronger at slow time controls (I expected the opposite, though). But the idea that the difference in strength between short and fast time controls could be as big as 200 points is absurd. Tord
