Subject: Patriot Taktik setting

Hi all,

I have conducted some tests with Patriot 1.0.5a (I don't have the pre-release
verison, but I don't think results would be different) to see whether Taktik OFF
or ON is the better setting. Here is what I have found.

First, I ran the WM-test's positional part (36 problems) on an AMD XP 2500+
machine. When Taktik was OFF, Patriot solved 18 problems, scoring 2639 points.
With Taktik ON Patriot solved 15, scoring 2619. This is a difference of 20 in
favour of Taktik OFF.

I then run ECM-GCP (183 problems) on a PIII 933 MHz machine, giving 10 seconds
per position. With Taktik=OFF Patriot solved only 35 (!), while with Taktik=ON
it solved 89.

Now came the IQ2 test by Jim Monaghan (201 problems). Again, PIII 933 MHz
machine, 10 sec/problem. Taktik=OFF resulted in solving 82 problems, scoring
2243 Élõ points. Taktik=ON brought 137 solutions, scoring 2425 Élõ points.

I believe the conclusion is self-explaining: the Taktik OFF setting gains very
little positionally compared to the big deficit it causes tactically.

So my choice is Taktik=ON.

Gábor
