It is fairly obvious that cheating is bad. CL is not going to print an article that says in effect "Cheating is bad, it's really bad, it is so bad.... blah blah". As far as the incidence of cheating, only the servers can estimate this. And it is in their best interests _not_ to reveal these numbers. Furthermore, I doubt how accurate these numbers would be, especially for stronger players. Let's say you've got a server where only 5% of the players cheat. The natural question would be 5%? Why so high? What are you doing about it? Frankly, I don't want to debate the ethics of cheating. I don't have the breath to waste on it. People do it, it's bad, they should know better. End of story. >it was simply a "how to try to detect a potential cheater"advise column, with >basically routine advise that any player on the net already knows If every player knows it, then why hasn't someone written the article before this time? There are plenty of tiny bits of information squirreled around on the net, but little coherent information, stated in non-inflammatory language. I assure you that not everyone is aware of these techniques. >PFFFFT. >a waste of the paper it was written on > Everyone is entitled to an opinion... Bob
