For some bizarre reason, I cannot log into playchess.com. I get an error message stating that my machine or IP address have been denied access to the server. I can only enter as a guest, but that does me no good. I really don't know what happened. The computer was playing online with Fritz 8, and when I came to check on it, it had automatically claimed a win against someone in its last game. Then, I noticed that contact had been broken with the server. I just figured they were doing maintenance, and that everyone was booted. This may not be the place for this rant, but sometimes playchess.com infuriates me. I enjoy interacting with the players, and I love the interface, but I've been accused of piracy in the past by a Sysop (Total BS. I've bought my software from either chesscentral.com or chesscafe.com), and now I've been denied access? Ridiculous. For someone like me who takes pride in their honesty and integrity, this has almost been too much to stomach. They have BIG TIME cheaters out there (try playing a game with "Chee$eMa$ter" - he ought to change his name to LAG MA$TER), and they go after a guy who has purchased over $700 worth of their products?!? My only "sin" on the server has been playing one of my computers against another in a series of rated games (I think 5). I was curious to see how badly a 2.8 GHz P4 could thump a 1.8 GHz Pentium laptop. The laptop's rating was pretty low, so when the P4 lost a game, it took away all the rating points that it had earned in the 5 match series. I didn't even think of ratings inflation until too late. Oh well. Big deal, anyway. It isn't like you get a prize for having a certain rating... Geez. Anyway, I've got an email in with Chessbase, but naturally, I don't hold my breath. Their support has been pretty pi$$-poor in the past. Thank you for allowing me to vent my frustrations. -Erik
