Subject: Upcoming Swiss-System Tourney: Spring Online Tournament 2004

Author: Timo Klaustermeyer

Hello!

Because of the positive feedback to the last tourney I'll start another
tournament this year, too. Michael Schiklang will assist me with the
organisation. We have a little Website online on which you get all information about the
tournament.

A little summarisation:

- The tournament is themed "just for fun". I hope that all participants will
behave as fair as at the CSS-Online-Masters. There were only few moments when
arbiters had to interfere.

- Starting date: 04/15/2004

- 11 rounds of Swiss System

- time controls: 90 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move

- maximum number of participants: 24

- game interface: playchess.com (Engine room or special tournament room)

- every program can participate only once; that effects different versions of
the same program, too (except TripleBrain)

- minimum hardware: CPU with at least 1,5 GHz or matching rating (for example
Athlon 1500+)

- The operators can arrange with each other for the games. One game per week
should be played. A new drawing / pairing will be online every thursday evening
normally.

- Here is an uncomplete excerpt of the participants so far (these programs are
already assigned), like visible on the Website:

HYDRA (FPGA-Spezialhardware)
Deep Fritz (8x Xeon 2,8 GHz)
Shredder (2x Opteron @ 3,3 GHz)
Deep Junior (8x Xeon 2,8 GHz)
Hiarcs (Athlon XP @ 2,2 GHz)
Gandalf (Pentium 4 3,06 GHz)
Deep Sjeng (2x Athlon MP 2800+)
TripleBrain (2x Athlon XP 2400+ / Athlon XP 3200+)
Chess Tiger 15 (Athlon XP @ 2,5 GHz)
...
...

All is possible in a 11 rounds tournament. Any program can win. And it will be
thrilling to let your program fight against the "pretended favorites" on great
hardware (for example Fritz and Junior on 8x Xeon 2,8 GHz).

There are still 3 more free places for participants. Some great engines are
still searching for an operator, like Anaconda, SmarThink, Delfi, Comet,
Goliath, Ktulu...
