GM Bareev played a 4 games match against it. All games were drawn. http://www.chessevents.nl/bareev_match.shtml It seems the strength of H8 Bareev in computerchess is just between H8 and H9 (which is not surprising). Speaking of Hiarcs 9 settings, I've only tried the "Kombinationen" (combinations) setting in some tactical test positions, and it turned out that it wasn't particularly better at this than the H9 defaults (more the opposite). Maybe that setting is more effective in specific (other) types of positions that I have tested it in; I don't know. So it seems to me there's no need to change the H9 defaults even for combinative analysis. H9 (default) has the top result currently in my tactical test suite, the Quicktest. http://members.aon.at/computerschach/quick/quickxls.zip http://members.aon.at/computerschach/quick/quicke.htm (But I've tested only some of the current, and older, top engines not all.)
