Crafty does not have any code built in to connect to any ICS that I know of. WinBoard takes care of all that beautifully. In fact, probably 95% or more of the programs that connect to ICSes use either WinBoard or Arena. For me, personally, I could have certainly rewritten some of my own code to access ICC, but as easy as winboard makes it, there would be no point (except being able to connect to ICC while running in the compiler for debugging purposes). As far as Blitzin goes...I think you're wrong: it uses exactly the same datagrams that any other interface uses. It has to, that's all that's sent. If you connect with telnet or something, you'll see all those packets streaming at you. It's just a matter of managing them and turning them into useful output for the user. Hope that helps. Andrew
