...but interesting anyway. I had a long thought during a travel and came up with the idea that too many q nodes are actually wasted. QSearch should simply give a quiet position to get a reliable eval, but in fact, in Averno it was doing a selective search, mostly unnecessary. I implemented some ideas to heavily prune in qsearch and removed all pruning from regular search but null move. My computer is busy doing thousands of games, but results so far seem to mean that this version is strongest Averno so far. Also, some games on ICC have put Averno in its high scores in all time controls: http://www.chessclub.com/cgi-bin/finger/finger.pl?handle=avernox Still new tests are needed, and I have very little time, so it'll take months, but I though I'd share. Any thoughs from similar experiences? José C.
