You have all been waiting for the exciting data regarding battery type and length of operation of the Novag Star Diamond. I have tried several types of alkaline batteries so far. Panasonic, Maxell, Duracell, Energizer. For the Maxells, I simply played chess and during one of my games I noted that the battery light came on (Game #14 I think, at near 24 hours). For the remaining three I did a fast discharge by setting a long time control and letting the computer play itself. Then when I got to 20 hours I gave the batteries an overnight rest and then started its thinking again, checking every 15 minutes or so to determine if the battery light had gone on yet. If 2 hours were spent (total 22 hours) and no battery light, I gave the batteries another overnight rest before the next 2 hour session. All these batteries are pretty much the same, 23 to 25 hours of power. I am now draining the Duracell Ultras (a $3.57 experiment in case someone wants to help support my research!!!!), and soon the red-hot scientific field of Batteries and Chess Computers will be advanced somewhat.
