Thought I'd brag a little... My first attempt at chess programming finds it
after only 879 million nodes :)

Searching:
ply nodes eval best move
---------------------------------------------------------------------
 1 268 -231 c1a3
 2 804 -231 c1a3 a2a3
 3 22,961 -52 h4b4 c7c5 b4a3
 4 73,024 -52 h4b4 c7c5 b4a3 f8g8
 5 1,599,529 -36 h4b4 c7c5 b4a3 a2a3 c1a3
 6 6,211,033 -22 f1c4 a3a4 c4d5 a4h4 d5a2 c7c5
 7 263,297,402 -4 h4b4 c7c5 b4a3 a2a3 c1a3 b7b6 f1d3
 8 879,375,377 299 h4f6 a3e3 c1e3 a2a5 f6h4 b7b5 f1e2

The capture extensions I do increase the node count quite a bit. Also, the only
move ordering I currently have is following the best continuation fron the
previous ply.
