Yes, thats it. The psychological effect should not be underestimated at all. I learned it the "wrong way", probably like most of us. And today in my 30s i still notice, that i dont love the black pieces as much as the white ones. The method of mirroring can be used to train chess in an interesting and even some innovative way: He who has ever tried to mirror , let me say, a sicilian opening like dragon, will agree that it is strange at first look, but gives some insight too.
