Here by "brute force" I meant brute force including some selectivity
modifications which clearly enhance it:

1) null move
2) some form of possible further search at depth == 0
3) possibly some selectivity at depth == 1, maybe 2
4) possibly some primitive extensions (check, maybe pawn push in endgame)

Ok, it's not really brute force, but it's the closest thing to brute force which
makes sense. In contrast to something which is truly selective ...
