These are used for people who have lost their hearing due to thorough destruction of their ears up to the auditory nerve. A small microphone is attached to a chip which has several wires as output. These wires are attached to the auditory nerve. After six months training, these people hear well enough to understand speech in quiet surroundings. Cheers, Walter Koroljow
