You can get some generalizations to the history table by using a scheme like Piecetype-to_square. Different breakdowns are possible, for example: Piece-to_square (Piece with or without color), Movetype-to_square (Movetype := pawn, knight, diagonal slider, straight slider ...) The problem is finding a general categorization that yields a usable result in your search. MvH Dan Andersson
