The maxDTM position in KRNKNN has DTM = 262 (and DTC = 243). They are all 'valid mates': it's up to the opponent to defend sufficiently well, and then claim the draw if they do and they wish to. Marc Bourzutschky's program will generate 'DTM50' EGTs with DTM depths and within the constraint of the 50-move rule. Afaik, none of the people who have it have used it for that. I would think the deepest DTM50s are in KNNKP and KQPKQ amongst the 3-5-men. g
