To be more precise...

This bug happens in the following sequence:

(1) the engine is NOT running
(2) change the hash size
(3) attempt to start Infinite Analysis mode

I repeat - the engine is not running when the hash size was changed in step 2.

Then Step 3 attempts to start the engine in Infinite Analysis mode, but the
exception happens instead. Thereafter Infinite Analysis mode will not work until
the GUI is exited and restarted.

Actually the engine can be running without this error happening. I do that
frequently, and seldom have a problem! In other words, this bug is not related
to whether or not the engine is running. That's irrelevant, and misses the
point.

The main point is that Infinite Analysis mode in Shredder 8 is buggy in the
native CB GUI. This is just one of the bugs. There are others. For example if
you access the Help - About menu, that stops the engine in Infinite Analysis
mode. Also sometimes when accessing the scoresheet while Infinite Analysis mode
is running, that restarts the engine calculating from zero (0). In addition the
above hash resizing/Infinite Analysis mode bug is obviously not properly
integrated with Windows XP Home, which does not recognize that an exception has
occurred. (The prior GUI recognized it properly.)

Re hash size:
There are good reasons to change the hash size. When the endgame approaches, the
engine starts to slow down due to tablebase access. This can be extreme and
causes severe hard drive chugging. According to my tests, the only way to speed
it up again is to lower hash size. At least it works that way on my computer.
Now I suppose you will claim that my processor is overheating, or I need to do a
scandisk, defrag, etc.

Why not just face it - Shredder 8 is buggy in the native CB GUI (particularly in
Infinite Analysis mode), but it works fine in the Classic Shredder GUI!
