My only correction to what I wrote before is near the end of my post.
When you open the winboard.ini file, you may have to enter
/firstChessProgramNames={"C:\chess\winboard\1\theking C:\chess\1\InB"
/firstProtocolVersion=1
instead of:
/firstChessProgramNames={"C:\Program Files\WinBoard\1\theking 1\InB"
/firstProtocolVersion=1
For other engines I have the following entries in the winboard.ini file. These
follow one line below the line above. I couldn't get Ruffian to work in my
chess directory so I just put the exe with it's files in the winboard directory
and it worked.
"C:\chess\delfi\delfi"
"ruffian_105"
"C:\chess\crafty\wcrafty"
"C:\chess\aristarch\aristarch"
"C:\chess\ElChinito\ElChinito_325"
"C:\chess\sjeng\sjeng"
"C:\chess\smarThink\smarThink"
"C:\chess\Ktulu42\Ktulu"
"C:\chess\thinkboard\thinker"
"C:\chess\Gandalf_5\Gandalf_5"
I recommend using the Arena interface for computer tournaments if you don't own
a chessbase program that does them. A new version just came out on the 8th.
