Only 51MB SDRAM won't get you off the ground with these new fangled IBM compatibles... :) Do you perhaps mean 512MB? Also I wonder if you mean XP 3000 rather than XP 2000? Or have you overclocked an XP 2000? But I'm really not very knowledgable about processors, so you could be right. You don't need to have the CD(s) in the drive, provided you have copied whatever data they contain to your hard drive - opening book, database, and tablebases. Different parameter settings for the engines to draw easily, or avoid draws, are available. For example Shredder has a "Draw score" setting. You'll have to read the details for each engine. Unfortunately those details are hard to find for Shredder, and are not included on the Shredder 8 CD. You really need to have the details about the engine parameters that were included with the Classic Shredder 6 GUI, which was included on the Shredder 7 CD (but omitted from the Shredder 8 CD). In contrast an explanation of the Fritz parameters should be on the Fritz CD, because that's what CB's GUI was designed for primarily. I presume that the engines are strongest with their default parameters. Not much is known (at least I don't know much) about the effect of selectivity and the other parameters. There are a few who claim their special parameter settings are stronger, but I never found their proof convincing. The main thing to realize about Shredder 8 is that only the first move found in Infinite Analysis mode can be trusted. It finds the best move in a position, but the rest of the analysis is garbage. Use it at your own peril. I don't believe Fritz 8 has this problem. But depending on which version of Fritz 8 you have, there could be a bug related to capturing on the e4 square, so you have to be careful in that regard. WP
