Subject: SargonIII/MS-DOS fan

Are there any MSDOS Sargon III chess users out there? My problem is, I have a
Windows98 machine, and I received a copy of the Sargon III program on a 5 1/4
floppy (it says for IBM PC-1984). I copied it onto a 3 1/2 inch floppy. I loaded
the disk and tried to run the program from the diskette. It comes up on the
screen briefly, then disappears. So, I tried to run it from the c: prompt in
msdos. Same thing. The screen appears for maybe 2 seconds, then it disappears.
I went to Microsoft's tech. support on the web and tried their "fixes", but it
still doesn't work. I then found a "tricks and tips" hack site on how you go in
and change a line of code in the program so that it doesn't need the disk when
you run the program (how do you do that?). I noted that when I copied the
program onto my hard drive, it still tries to access the disk, then I get the
message "non-system disk." This always happens after the program flashes on the
screen for a couple of seconds, then disappears.
I've tried changing the display monitor properties, then I read on another web
site that I need to change the high memory area??
-Does anybody out there have this program, and how can I get it to run, either
out of Windows 98 or in MS-DOS?
