I think we should acknowledge Marty for bringing computer chess to people hardly capable of buying a professional chess software. So far as I am concern, he was responsible for cutting the prices of such software by sacrificing his worthy chess program inorder that more people can afford it. I remember how expensive the programs then. I always kept thinking about my other household budget before I ordered my first professional chess software. It must have cost Marty some real soul searching before he decided on it. I think he did the right thing. More people can now buy chess software than ever before, I anticipate, which should translate to an increase of revenues and eventually helping our programmers dedicate more time to their worthy pursuit.
