Subject: majestic chess vs. human life master

Last friday at the end of our local chess club meeting, I asked life master john
russell potter (fide 2270+) to play a 20-min 5-inc match against majestic chess.
He really didn't want to play a mashine but after I told him it was an old
w-chess engine from the 80's w/ nice graphics, he agreed. He requested that I
move the peices for him because he didn't like my mouse ?? ( well what ever
floats his boat), I agreed and so we began. I set it up so that he could play a
custom player, that I dubbed "Dark lord", a personality I've been working on
that seems alittle stronger than the default (though not enough games to
conclude anything yet).

Well the game started with potter having white in a sharp line in the caro kahn,
an opening that is potters bread and butter, potter sacs a pawn in the line for
presure on the king side but soon gets nothing in return and with thoughts of
still winning he pressed on anyway and ended up resigning before move 40! There
were a number of shocked onlookers to this match and even I was suprised at how
easily he was dispatched. My only regret was that I did not save the game.

So what started out as me just showing off this program to a mother of a chess
kid who was interested in nice tutorals ended in the severe beating of a three
time VA. state champion. Even worse was that majestic took less than 10mins to
accomplish this feat!

btw. He stated several times during the game "I hate this greedy little silicon
beast" as he cluched his fist and banged on the table, while desperately trying
to find a draw.

ps. any guesses as to the rating of this program on a 2400+ amd laptop w/ 512mb
ram.
