I own Fritz 8, Hiarcs 9, Junior 8, Shredder 7 & 8, and Chess Tiger 15. As I was looking through the opening books of each of the engines, something struck me as odd: Chess Tiger's book didn't seem to be tuned. Although it is a very large book that provides a great deal of variety as a playing partner, I was surprised to see that it was not tuned. Fritz, Hiarcs, Junior, and the Shredders, each come with books that have some moves marked as "main moves," and others marked as "don't play in tournament." In the Chessbase world, main moves are colored "green" and moves to NOT play in tournaments (i.e. when tournament book is checked via the GUI) are colored "red." Is there a "tournament tuned" book for Chess Tiger that kind of "guides" the engine to play openings which the engine finds more favorable for its style of play? I feel as though the other engines might have an advantage playing with their own books vs. Chess Tiger playing with a non-tuned book. But then again... maybe it isn't a big deal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
