Go up one level in this thread
When the manual is missing, I guess most important will be the level settings.
When the level key is pressed repeatedly, the LED from 1...8 and then from A...H
will be activated. That means:
0 0.5 seconds per move
1 2 seconds per move
2 5
3 15
4 30
5 1 minute
6 2
7 3
8 6
A 30 moves in 30 minutes
B 40/2h
C 40/2.5 h
D 50/2.5 h
E 5 min./g blitz
F 10 secs./move fixed, except ponderhits
G infinite
H mate solving (up to #10 but I guess that's more theoretical :-))
I'm not sure though if the S-24K'S level settings are identical. It seems that
the permanent brain couldn't be deactivated, IOW no "easy" levels.
The Turbo 16K had an interesting feature: A multiple permanent brain. Somehow it
managed to prepare for various different replies during the opponents time,
although programmers will tell that alpha-beta cannot determine the 2nd best
reply to expect or something like that. Maybe the Turbo used some estimation to
select the replies to ponder at. The effect was definetely noticeable,
especially at short levels when the human opponent used much longer thinking
times.
While the 16K's display was for the clocks only, it is possible (?) that the
S-24K could display more... I don't know though. The 16K displayed the move it
currently considered ("display move") using the 3-colour LEDs.
