Hey Andrew, The recap extension is one such example. Try extending 1 full ply always when making a recapture of similar value. It initially seems to give you tactical strength, (it did when my engine was new, and had no such extension) but it also hurt my depth a fair bit. Worked great on the testsuites too. However, as my program has got stronger, I found that limiting the extension in various ways actually improved the strength of my program. I am sure there are positions where the old aggressive recap extender tactically crushes the newer more controlled bodo. However, the newer bodo gains a bit more depth on all the quieter positions, which translates to better positional play. Since these quieter positions are in the majority, the overall performance of bodo increased when I limited the extension somewhat. Interestingly enough, my WAC scores dropped! I use WAC more as a bug testing tool. Joel
