Nor do I, unless it be the members of this forum, but nor do I beleive you'd be
getting any of the Chessmaster buyers either, so it's a pointless comment. The
typical Chessmaster buyers (John may correct me) buy it because it has numerous
personalities so it can play at their level, tons of rank beginner to
lower-intermediate level tutorials to teach them chess, commented games, cool 3D
boards of all kinds, etc. They also buy it because it is a very well-established
brand name.
Unless you plan to offer the above, AND manage a mass distributor, AND mass
advertisement, your comparing it with Chessmaster in any way is not realistic.
IMHO.
>I do realize a handful of nerds here does, but you can't earn money on nerds.
I hate to say it, but as mentioned above, I think that's your ONLY market niche.
The general public for the most part will go for a cutesy program like CM, and
the more sophisticated one will probably opt for the SSDF pickings. I think the
comments seen here are right on. If you plan to sell it, even in a proprietary
interface, you need to provide some means for the easy testing done here, such
as engine-engine matches, tournaments, test suites, position importing (needs to
be done with a simple copy and paste) and exporting, etc.

I think this is unrealistic, even if I were to agree with the accusations of
deliberate cheating, which I don't. No offense, but Diep isn't a threat to any
market, isn't even a top 10 engine AFAIK, so why would anyone devote any
development time trying to especially beat it?
