Werner,

Thanks. And btw, nice game against Dragon-Master.

I took a look at your formula and others from the club, and here are some
observations:

First, you have a large time increment, and I suppose that's because you haven't
automated the interface yet. But few players like to play with such an
increment, especially computers. There are exceptions, of course, and to find
these, look at the formulas of likely opponents (type "v Chrismo" for example).
Amateur has a max incr of 2, Grok 1, Lambchop 3, etc. (Aside-- KiwiPete, I'm
going to start calling it "Lampchop", or "I am chop", after some of the lists
I've seen.)

You are still provisional, meaning you haven't played 8 (I think) blitz games
yet. Many oppponents have !provisional in their formula.

Many opponents, including (from this group) Hossa, Grok and SSEChessII, have
!computer in their formula, sometimes in combination with other vars. Normally
they'll play unrated against you, but not rated. I personally don't understand
the reasons for this, perhaps someone could enlighten me.

Many opponents have autocolor in their formulas, which means they will not
accept a match from a player who specifies white or black in their match
command. So, don't say "match amateur 5 2 white." Also, don't put out a seek
in the form of "seek" without args, since it will use your defaults, which
includes a color specification.

You might consider setting your noescape to 0, although having it at 1 won't
affect your ability to get matches. If you play a match and both players have
noescape on, then whoever disconnects loses. I don't like that.

To maximize the number of matches you play, you should get automated of course,
then put out multiple seeks with times like 5/0 or 4/2, and don't be too
restrictive in terms of who you will accept matches from. Also, you can code
some match commands into your program, so that it automatically issues matches
to predetermined opponents on a timed basis. You can get pretty creative with
that. You can also automatically rematch, but limit it to 1 rematch, unless by
prior arrangement with the opponent.

Hope that helps.

Will
