They are the same thing. The engine in Chessmaster IS a winboard engine, and the Chessmaster GUI IS a winboard GUI. If it is playing differently with (supposedly) the same settings on the same computer but in a different GUI, then something went wrong when you set up the engine for the other GUI. You DO know about the dreaded "OPK" setting, right? jm
