Ktulu too but not in a directly match after my information. Ktulu beats AnMon very hight, Patriot have problems, both programs have strong results vs. professionals, like Shredder, TheKing. But I am not sure about it ... I haven't enough games. The playing styles from both engines are very interesting! Means that Patriot and Ktulu are very strong in endgames (Ktulu without endgame databases). This is for the most amateurs a bigger problem. The playing time from end of middelgame to endgame is the time where the amateurs losed the most games vs. the professionals. The developings from Ktulu and Patriot goes in bigger steps because the programmers working on ... in my opinion ... boring ... endgames and then on more interesting tactical knowledge. Both programs are very strong in positional positions too. OK ... Other amateur engines: For me is not important how strong is an engine! Better important to 30% only! Example: I like Matador, Cerebro ... I don't know why but the engines played for me interesting computer chess. 01. The programmer must have interest to do it. 02. The engine must have an interesting playing style, my opinion is not the opinion from others, not easy to say this! From time to time I can asked a grandmaster and he give me tipps too. 03. I must be sure that the programmer have interest to work on this project, updates, bug fixes, new ideas ... 04. Ideal is (for me very important) the programmer have fun on this hobby for a long time. I can see it if I read mails. I work with heard and partners with make the same is optimal for me. 05. The program must be compatible to UCI or UCI / WB. The most costomers have more fun on UCI and I can understand it. I like WB more as UCI ... but this is my private opinion. 06. The most of users thinking "I must have the strongest for have fun" but this is wrong. I try now 2 weeks to beat the good old chess computers with 5 MHz but I make no more as 40%. Of course I have wish engines, programmres I like but for my company is not the playing strenght alone important. More important is the programmer, his ideas for the future and the interest to work in Arena Team. Furthermore, I have a lot of ideas (not engines only) but the time is the problem. I can only work on one of this ideas with full power. Every person must have a chance to release a commercial product. But in computer chess area with all the Freeware and only a hand full commercial companys we have a very big problem. I believe to late to repair but not to late to try to make good things! The group of helping persons is big Fernando! In front with Martin Blume and his great work we have all chances in the future. In my opinion: The Arena Chess GUI is "maybe" the best open supported software in WWW. As engine freak is support for me the most important things for a commercial company. Best Frank
