I agree - the "analysis" for EGTB does not work for Crafty is iendgame positions

That is not an easy fix doe me and I have no idea how to fix it. If you bring
crafty up in console mode, not only will it tell you mate-in-xx , but it will
tell you the best line.

The Goodnews - There is a workaround for Arena:

add (no quotes)

xboard
kibitz 2
"

to your crafty.rc file

set search time to infinity

hit the computer icon (computer chip left of "demo" button) and it will display
mate score.  It will be faster after Crafty is initialize.
