If you bring crafty up in console mode, not only will it tell you mate-in-xx , but it will tell you the best line. The Goodnews - There is a workaround for Arena: add (no quotes) " xboard kibitz 2 " to your crafty.rc file set search time to infinity hit the computer icon (computer chip left of "demo" button) and it will display mate score.
