Is it my imagination/ or is it the way I have it configured? It's not your imagination :-) but actually, all of these are strong engines. Maybe the three strongest, currently. Shredder and Fritz, no doubt (the 3rd may be chosen by individual taste :-)). In how many positions did you compare infinite analysis results of these? 2 or 3 positions don't tell much; you'll always find 2 or 3 positions where engine X is better than Y and Z, and vice versa... >Also is it wrog to have all 3 instaled? I guess I know what you mean: You don't need to have the GUI program (chessprogram8.exe) installed more than once. When you have it installed in 2 or 3 different paths, changing settings in one of them will interfere with the two others because it's the identical program, using the same ini files and registry entries. (This has confused an endless number of uses before...) If this is the case, you probably can: 1. backup all your engine files (..\engines\.., all files) 2. uninstall the main progs 3. reinstall it, only once (default path recommended) 4. put back missing engine files in the engine directory, if necessary You'll have access to all installed ChessBase engines by pressing F3. Also, you can choose the GUI name (Fritz/Shredder/Hiarcs) from the extras/options dialogue, see version tab. This will decide which engine is used for a benchmark, and which startup screen graphics (IOW, it doesn't matter much). Regards, M.Scheidl
