I think that this is interesting so this evening I made time for some test also.
I place 3, 4 and some 5 piece tablebases, what would fit on a 650mb CD. Then I
started changing engine in the Fritz 8 GUI and watch the time each engine spends
with the tb's when initializing.

Fritz 8 doesn't seem to spend any time on it, apparently only calling on them
when needed in endgame. Junior 8 used 3 seconds, ChessTiger 15 used 3 seconds,
Hiarcs 9 used 21 seconds, and Shredder 8 used 38 seconds. (I only loaded each
engine twice, and I concede a couple seconds to any of them either way).

Until now I'd failed to understand that some engines, that I just thought were
slow loaders, were spending long times with the tb's. Huh, learning all the
time. Dr. Hyatt thanks also for your time to report that for me. BK
