The SS setting is at hex offset 50.
I went to download.com ... file utilities, and downloaded hextool.zip (116KB).
I found the location using the method you mentioned.
Finding and editing the location was effortless.
The modified personality works, and the new SS setting is shown in the edit
personalities screen.
But I did no testing.
