My point is, to accurately answer your question as you have explained it to me, you have to hammer out these details like, "does the fifty move counter change the strategy in this position?" If it does -> different positions. If it doesn't -> same position. Isn't that how you justified mirroring and not counting "duplicates"? The mirrored positions had exactly the same strategy, just like the positions I showed. Even if the fifty move counter is at 40 it probably has no bearing on the optimal strategy in those positions.
