I wouldn't think twice.  If my program was not SMP-capable, I'd go for a 2.4ghz
opteron (FX-53).  If I could afford a dual opteron, I'd go that way if
possible...  But you can't beat the opteron on speed for chess and speed gives
you the best chance at the WCCC...
