The alternative is to be dependent upon a small number of reviewers. CCR was
never voluminous enough to cover all of the issues we discuss.
Just like political discussions in real life, it is necessary to sort through it
all to make your own judgements. In most countries now, it is recognized that
this outwardly chaotic process is best for finding the truth.

Reviews similar in quality to those published in CCR are posted in the Computer
Chess Resource Center.

should consider putting the question to Steve Schwartz. Would a $15 to

No. But noone will buy, if they are freely available elsewhere. If CCC started
charging, someone else would open a free club. Furthermore, I can make my own
quality reviews.

And many would go elsewhere, which defeats the purpose of this group.
A main motivation for providing CCC is just to keep people talking, and to keep
them thinking, about chess software. People who keep talking and thinking soon
want to buy.

Finally, argumentation about chess software is a hobby in itself. Those who are
offended by this idea can still visit the CCRC for nothing.
