I just got to the office and picked up the bound copy of my dissertation.  To
show _just_ how idiotic you look, let me refer you to page 83-84, where you will
find the following statement:

"Testing done on the Sequent exhibits both of these problems due to the
relatuively shallow searches that the Sequent can perform.  Increasing the depth
of the test problems by one ply significantly improves the performance of the
search, as the deeper searches change their mind less frequently (a fact
observed by playing many similar positions using more powerful Cray XMP and Cray
YMP computers.)  In fact, the tabular data obtained from the Sequent is
significantly worse than experiments run on the Crays in years past.  We
anticipate better results when extensive test time on a Cray YMP becomes
available (eight processors) and then anticipate even better parallel
performance when a Cray-3 (32 processors with significantly faster processors)
becomes available."

Do you find yourself feeling just a _bit_ stupid now?

I got 8.81 in 1988 on 16 processors running at 0.7 MIPS.  I predicted better
performance on much faster hardware due to deeper search depths.  I got it it
1995-1996 on the Cray C90.  And you think that is a contradiction?
