Can anybody recommend a web site where I might download bitmap images of chess
pieces (.BMP file extension) and/or chess related icons (.ICO file extension)
suitable for use under 32-bit Windows? Or better still, does anyone have any
such files that they would be prepared to send to me? I know that there are
several chess icons around, eg an empty chess board or a chess knight are quite
common. I even have programs that display these icons, but they do not come with
separate icon files. Also Manfred's excellent EDP2Diag utility has .GIF files
for all combinations of chess piece/squarecolour, but I do not know how to
display .GIF in Windows, so I have been unable to use these to create my own
user interface. I currently display the chessboard on a text console using ascii
(!!), although this is not nearly as bad as you might think - the trick is to
use a large console with more lines to improve the resolution. A proper
bitmap-based board would be much slicker though - can anyone help?

Best wishes,
Roberto
