Why not just proactively de-politicize the entire thing by not trying to pretend that chess programmers actually represent their country in some official fashion (unless they actually do, which I don't think is the case for anyone). Of all possible competitions, I would think that computer chess would be one of the *least* political. Instead, I find the opposite. And I see it causing a lot of problems all the time.
